🛍️ Mimo
Founded by childhood friends Maya and Myre, who first met at age ten in Brazil, Mimo is the embodiment of Brighton’s creative, artistic and entrepreneurial spirit. You may know them from their spot at the Open Market, but after the duo spent a month hand-designing their new flagship shop on the iconic Sydney Street, they opened the doors to their new space just 2 months ago. The space serves as both a shop and a community hub, showcasing their own brands, Uschie and Mopbox, alongside a thoughtfully curated selection of over 40 local artists and makers.

Inside, the shelves are bursting with colour and bits and bobs you won’t find anywhere else, from oat milk chocolate (pictured) to bake your own dog treats, every item is a celebration of design. Their extensive range extends to everything from handmade jewellery, ceramics, and art prints to quirky temporary tattoos, stickers, stationery and even candles in the shape of grumpy cates (pictured). By frequently hosting events and collaborations, Mimo has quickly become a cornerstone of the North Laine artistic scene, embodying the journey from makeshift childhood market stalls to a thriving independent high street presence.

🍕 Detroit Club
After opening in early 2025, Detroit Club has already earned a loyal following due to its consistently delicious, deep-pan Detroit-style pizza. The owner, David, is a veteran of the hospitality industry; from working in traditional pizza bars in Kent to fish and chip shops, he has now returned to his first love with a stylish new opening in Kemptown.

David and the team don't do the thin-crust pizza we’re used to in the UK; instead, they specialise in a unique hybrid base that marries the airy, olive-oil-rich texture of a Sicilian focaccia with the substantial, deep-dish structure of a classic Detroit-style ‘pie’. The secret lies in a 48-hour proving process, resulting in a dough that manages to be incredibly light and soft while supporting a serious amount of toppings. The real star of the show, however, is the "cheesy crust", their signature caramelised, crispy border where the cheese meets the edge of the pan.
For those working in the area, we recommend popping in for their lunch deal, where you can get a ‘lunch-sized’ pizza, a side, and a dip for just £8 before 3pm. If you are already planning for Valentine’s Day, they’re also offering two pizzas, sides, dips, and glasses of Prosecco for £40 total. Whether you are a meat-lover or looking for high-quality vegan options, the focus here is always on that signature crunch; it is a must-try for any pizza-loving local, whether ordered for delivery or eaten fresh at their restaurant.
