🐦 Murder Mysteries, Family-Fun & Sweet Brazilian Treats
Your guide to staying dry, well-fed, and far away from Storm Goretti.
Happy Friday, Brighton!
As Storm Goretti rolls in, replacing the freezing temperatures with 60 to 70mph winds (stay safe!), we’ve found plenty of ways to keep you warm and dry this weekend. From two candlelight concerts and 17 live music gigs, to a new wave of family-friendly shows, January is starting to liven up. We’re also diving into a new Brazilian-inspired chocolatier and coffee bar serving handmade Brigadeiros and stuffed croissants, plus an established favourite that’s cleaning up at the awards with some of the best value for money sirloins and burgers in Brighton.
Here’s what’s squawking this week:
🎭 A choice of a thriller and a whodunnit for theatre fans
🧑🧑🧒🧒 Plenty of options for the kids across the city
🇧🇷 Bonbons, flat whites and croissants at a chocolate-lover’s dream cafe
🥩 Grass-fed British steaks cooked over charcoal for Pints & Plates

9/1/26 - 11/1/26
🩰 Entasi Dance Company: Terms and Conditions ⏰ Saturday, 7:30pm A powerful contemporary dance work that interrogates authority, control and resistance through Entasi’s raw, physical movement style. Visceral, unsettling and deeply human, this is a striking piece that lingers long after the final moment. 🎭 The Farndale Avenue Murder Mystery ⏰ Friday 7:30pm | Saturday 2:30pm & 7:30pm A lovingly chaotic amateur dramatics whodunnit where everything that can go wrong absolutely does. Slapstick, broken scenery and old-school British farce make this a proper feel-good theatre pick. 🎤 Komedia Comedy Club ⏰ Friday & Saturday, 8:00pm A classic Brighton night out with three strong comedy acts and a sharp MC in one of the UK’s most respected comedy venues. Reliable, fast-paced and ideal if you just want a guaranteed laugh in North Laine. | 🎭 Single White Female ⏰ Friday & Saturday, 7:30pm A tense world-premiere stage adaptation of the cult 90s psychological thriller, reworked for the age of social media and starring Kym Marsh. Smart, unsettling and very much not a cosy night at the theatre. 🎼 Candlelight Concerts: Coldplay + Imagine Dragons & Queen ⏰ Saturday, 7:00pm & 9:00pm Two back-to-back candlelit concerts transforming pop and rock anthems into intimate string-quartet performances inside the Royal Pavilion. Atmospheric, romantic and one of the city’s most visually striking live music experiences 🎭 Stories with Skip ⏰ Saturday, 10:15am & 11:30am A gentle, interactive theatre session designed as a first proper theatre experience for little ones aged 2-4. Expect stories, games, crafts and plenty of joining in without pressure. |

💝 Cocoa Corner Cafe
Brighton loves a good cafe, but with so many to choose from, it takes something distinct to stand out. New arrival, Cocoa Corner Cafe does exactly that, bringing a Brazilian-British fusion to the city’s coffee scene that sets it apart from more generic competitors. Their handmade Brigadeiros (traditional Brazilian treats made with condensed milk and double cream) are as pretty as they are delicious. Falling somewhere between a truffle and fudge, they offer a rich, velvety texture you won't find in a standard box of chocolates.

Alongside the sweets, they serve the staples with a twist, including Cast Iron Coffee, Bird & Blend teas, and pastries, including their Croissants filled with their signature Brigadeiro. You'll also find a huge array of bonbons ranging from lemon and lime to Milk Nido with Nutella, each with its own beautiful design.
Owners Shirley and Daniel bring over a decade of shared experience; Daniel’s technical training under Master Chocolatier Ruth Hinks provides a professional polish to their bespoke choice of chocolates. Their creation is a green and modern space that prioritises hospitality and craft over flashy decor, a smart choice for a high-quality coffee and pastry or a gift that is almost guaranteed to be new to even the most well-travelled chocolate-lover.

🔥 Kindling
Following a brief 2024 reset, Kindling’s 'Simply Steak' reboot has been a runaway success, cleaning up at the local awards by trading complex plates for fire, salt, and good value. By stripping away the fluff and focusing on grass-fed British beef cooked over embers, they’ve managed to make high-end steak feel accessible rather than elitist. You can watch your food be cooked over open flames while you wait, making for a great show to watch before watching another just a short walk away in the Lanes or North Laine.

Though the focus may be on steaks, Kindling have much more to offer. Their Sunday Roast here is a serious contender for the best value in town, providing a 500g dry-aged Sirloin on the bone for two, at £29 per person. They also rival the newly opened Flat Iron with their own lunch deal of a Flatiron steak & chips or House burger & chips for just £15. Combined with sides like Macaroni Cheese topped with sage pangrattato, signature cocktails, and a decadent Basque Cheesecake, Kindling is a solid, high-value choice for any meat-loving local.
