๐ฆ A ยฃ9.5m Hippodrome Rescue, Low Tide Silent Discos & Elton John Reimagined
From saving a historic Middle Street landmark after twenty years to open-air dancing on the shoreline sand, plus legendary anthems reimagined through pitch-perfect impressions.
Hello, Brighton & Hove!
The city is operating at peak summer capacity, and first up is a gentle reminder: it is Fatherโs Day this Sunday. Conveniently, World Cup fever is already sweeping the pebbles, and with England vs Croatia tomorrow night, grabbing a pint with your old man is the perfect tactical head start to the weekend.
Aside from the football, the cultural calendar is bursting. We have a massive wave of independent film festivals hitting local screens, alongside a citywide oyster festival for those who fancy some high-end seafood grazing. Whether you are prepping for a low-tide silent disco on the shoreline or tracking down Elton John anthems, put the kettle on and let us dive straight in.
Here is whatโs squawking this week:
๐ญ A massive ยฃ9.5m rescue package finally saves the historic Brighton Hippodrome.

๐ฝ๏ธ SAMA International Film Festival
Iโm always backing initiatives that celebrate independent culture in our city, and this week, something incredibly special is taking over our local screens. The inaugural Sama Brighton film festival was kick-started yesterday, providing a vital international platform that promotes freedom of expression while showcasing brilliant displaced, diasporic, and underrepresented filmmakers. Over five nights, they are bringing an incredible mix of feature films, documentaries, and shorts, complete with live discussions, music, and community connection across a handful of our favourite independent venues in Brighton and Lewes.
What makes this festival so beautiful is its core mission to amplify vital voices that global history so often ignores. Every single film shown is fully subtitled in English, offering us an intimate window into deeply personal stories of survival, identity, and resilience from places like Afghanistan, Iran, and Kazakhstan. Itโs exactly the kind of powerful, thought-provoking grassroots cinema that challenges perspectives and brings our community closer together, so please do go out and show them some proper local love.
Just a heads up that tonight is completely sold out, as is Wednesday, but there are still places left for Thursday and Friday, so make sure you hurry up to book your tickets!

๐๐ฆ Burger & Lobster
If you are craving a proper seaside feast, Burger & Lobster on Market Street is a spot
I always recommend it to everyone. It sits right in the heart of the Lanes, just moments from Brighton Beach and a short stroll from Old Steine Gardens. The space has a brilliant, energetic buzz that makes it a top-tier choice for a fun, lively date night where you can tuck into some serious comfort food.
The concept here is wonderfully simple but executed to perfection, bringing together the finest wild Atlantic lobster and prime beef burgers. If you want the absolute best of both worlds, their surf and turf options are an absolute must. For a fantastic daytime date, they also run a brilliant Surf and Turf Set Menu between 12pm and 6pm daily, which gives you two courses for twenty pounds or three for twenty-five pounds.
The atmosphere is completely unpretentious and filled with a welcoming, vibrant energy from the moment you walk in.

Last week's spooky trivia was a total ghostly gathering! A massive 55.36% of you were completely correct, easily spotting that a mysterious Lady in Red loves to materialise right next to the bar at The Druid's Head.
This week, we are moving from the paranormal to music royalty. In July 2002, local legend Fatboy Slim threw his Big Beach Boutique II concert right on the pebbles. It became the largest outdoor party in UK history, but it caused total chaos when a massive wave of ravers unexpectedly swarmed the seafront.
How many music fans unexpectedly swarmed Brighton Beach for the concert, effectively doubling the city's population for the day? |
